Howdy, I was just wondering if anyone could outline the differences of Freebsd to linux and which is better. and more importantly which you would use and why you would use it. As im planning on setting up a firewall for the sharing of a internet connection.
Any input or ideas would greatly be apprecated.

I had a BIG reply written and lost it FFS!
Here's the jist of it...
It all depends on what you feel comfortable with. You can obviously administrate the one you feel more comfortable with much easier.
FreeBSD supposedly is much more secure over a network, but I have no first hand experience with it so I can not say from my experience.
Linux has many different versions (ie. RedHat, YellowDog). Linux is not considered an OS by many. It is just a kernel that the different versions use in thier OS. FreeBSD comes complete and it therefore considered an OS. It just depends on what your idea of an OS actually is.
My advice to you... Get both, try them, and use the one you are most comfortable with. They are both very efficient and functional, and pretty secure.

Also, I forgot to mention.
Linux is freely available for the Mac, but FreeBSD isn't. Although if I was running a server using a mac, I'd just use OSX.
