I was just wondering what all your thoughts were on the existance of magic. There was a long thread on it on totse a while back. www.totse.com/bbs/Forum9/HTML/000416.htmlSo anyone know anything on the subject? Discuss.

Look at all this "I have to see it to believe it" BS. People who don't believe that things can't exist if they're unproven to you are self-centered morons. I can't see any of the posters on Rorta, but I know that they exist.
Of course, teenaged pseudo-Wiccans who make love potions and so forth are all moronic. I have an intense desire to flay them.
One thing a lot of people don't get is that none of the "power" associated with "magic(k)" comes from the rituals, formulae, ceremonies, et cetera. It's internal. It requires lots of personal knowledge, ability, and talent. This is why Sarina the 16-year old angst-ridden Wiccan wannabe (EDIT: Who, of course, believes that she's the reincarnation of Cleopatra or something) who wants to make Billy like her won't get shit done by chanting anything. This is also why nothing's going to happen when you read out of any books. The existance of certain texts or words that have power unto themselves is theorized, but debated. There's a word for those, but I can't remember it.
On books: anything you can find in a regular bookstore is bullshit, when it comes to this. Histories of certain magic(k)al orders, fine, but no actual spells/magic(k)/et cetera. If this kind of shit worked, then the captain of almost every football team would be dating the wierd chick in black clothes.
For some more information on magic(k), check out any of the books by Aleistair Crowley, because they're pretty frickin' easy to find. If you use IRC, get on irc.nullus.net and use the #bookwarez channel, and search for anything by him. There's also an info page on him at rotten.com, that's pretty interesting.

Oh, yeah. My "store stuff that I might need" website has a .pdf copy of the Necronomicon in it. This isn't the original Necronomicon, of course. www.geocities.com/kakkaraun/

I also love these morons who think that it's "eeeeevil!"
Magick, like other things, is like a knife: sure, you can use it to harm people, but you can also use it to eat your food, or cauterize a wound, or use it for decoration.

It occurs to me, also, that the people who don't believe that magic(k) is possible have no clue what they're talking about. I especially love the way Das Troll commits his namesake about how much BS magic(k) is, then turns around and says "im sure theres some people out there who can use it." And to think I kind of liked him.

Hmm, perhaps magic is BS, perhaps not. I have heard that magic was more frequent in ancient times. And it was more of an excuse to explain things that science can now explain. Well... yeah duh I say.

Also, "magic" founded many of today's sciences. Alchemy became Chemistry, Astrology became Astronomy, et cetera.

Oh of course magic founded many sciences. But magic also gave the church an excuse to wrongfully burn people. then again.. so did science. Keep the people dumb by murdering the heretics.

Anyway...some people do theorize that Science is just a form of magic(k). Oddly, the best statement of this theory I've seen is in the RPG Mage: the Ascension ( www.white-wolf.com/mage ). It takes a lot of thinking to absorb that, though...that game is poorly written to a mind-boggling extreme.

I think it is safe to say that everything is considered magic until you actually understand it. For example, before entering chemistry class, I had no fricking clue how chemical reactions occurred, it was like, magically happening. Then afterward, I felt all unhappy now that the mystery was cracked .
