In my entire reading experience I have never read anything quite like the Harry Potter series. It is stuck somewhere between child and adult reading, and unfortunately for us mature readers when WB went to the marketing tactics for the movie, they chose to market it to children; effectivly severing most of the ties between adult readers and Harry Potter. A lot of people think Harry Potter is for children, when it is really for everyone who loves a good tale.
The seven book series (Five books currently out) is about a boy who is treated like shit by his aunt and uncle and their son. One day he gets a visit from a giant who tells him he is a wizard, and that he is signed up for a wizarding school called Hogwarts. He goes and finds that the same dark, evil wizard that killed his parents is coming back to kill him and the story and plot is just amazing. Really, all five books are good to read.
If you think Harry Potter is just for kids, don't let the movies trick you. The movies are for kids, but the books are for...well...they are for kids and adults. It's really an allegory if you think about it, one on a child level and one on an adult; both can be enjoyed. You will love the Harry Potter series if you like fantasy/magic type books. This is the best series I have ever read, and that is why I'm reccomending it.
EDIT-Sorry, forgot to mention the author. J.K Rowling.

Harry Potter is an amazing book series. And although it is marketed to children, look how it's written, and what it's written about. There are big words that little kids don't know, and its kinda wierd book. A lot of little kids don't like it.

I dont get much time to read nowadays i spend it all sleeping, eating, shitting, meeting mah lady, playing CS and Moderating. I used to read when I was younger, but I thibk it was a lack of interest in books or a growth in interest in Cannabis that lead to my read-stopping (terrible English I know). And there people is a perfect example of how drugs will ruin your thinking power. "Drugs are bad mmmmmmmmkay!"

Life has been pretty slow over there, and I could use a good debate to liven up interest.

Well now, Prom, that's an interesting idea about reading the Narnia series by C.S Lewis. Now, I know there is a risk of this post being too much like something that should be in the "Sexual and Spiritual" topic but hey, why not! Did you all know that C.S Lewis is being considered as one of the better "Christian" writers of all time. He has written some excellent books on Christianity, namely, "Mere Christianity" which in my opinion is one of the greatest books ever written on simple Christian basics. He uses the book in an incerdible way, to without even really referencing the bible actually show you why Christianity is very real. Also he has written the "Screwtape letters", which I have not read yet, but it is about a conversation between demons. Very interesting indeed!!! So yeah, the point is that C.S Lewis is an amazing writer, and well, all his books are written with a Christian undertone! Bye now!!!

Ive got a nice little box-set of the Narnia books at home somewhere or other I just cant find them. Ive read them all but as I said Cannabis took them away from me. I havent seen or heard of any of his other stuff but this demon conversation sounds intriguing. Id like to read it with a joint-in-hand ;D

I agree that the Harry Potter series is good, I have enjoyed it so far.
But I think that it has grown since the begining. The way I saw it when it start was more attuned to children, but with reading the fifth book, it seemed more adult to me. I don't know, but they are good books.
