Just wondering if any body here can recommend any particular art of fighting. I really want to learn some discipline and Id like the most brutal that will fit my physical build. Im 5'8 and fairly slim so height and power is no good to me really.

Kung-Fu. There is a Kung-Fu club on Blarney Street and I think there is a society here in CIT.

I'm no expert on all the various forms of fighting arts, however i have done Tae Kwon Do off and on over the past 10 years.
Any training in self defense is better then nothing.
You say your slim and not real tall, well look at Bruce Lee. One of the great masters of fighting. So don't focus on your weaknesses, look at increasing your abilities.
Tae Kwon Do would be a great starting platform to increase stamina, speed and skill. Then look at a more "brutal" art forms when you get proficent at these basic fighting techniques.
It certainly doesn't hurt to try more then one style.

I've heard good things about an art called Mande Muda. My uncle is a high-ranking instructor, and he's a fairly small guy. Apparently it's brutal to the extreme.

I do Jui-Jitsu, its pretty good for throwing, holds, etc. Our instructor makes us do lots of high-impact physical training, but this can differ.
My friend says Muay Thai kickboxing is pretty good if you wanna be a street-fighter kinda guy.
Old-stlye Karate is really brutal if you train with the older Asian guys who REALLY push you to the limit.
But the best is learning many dif styles and going with the one that suits you best.

I am in Tae Kwon Do it really helps you to learn how to throw kicks punches, and combos. They teach you things that someone who was not familiar with the martial arts would not normally do in a fight. Always move forward- some people think they are goign to win a fight standing still.. thats not how to do it, you must be aggressive and always ready to throw a kick or punch if the opportunity arises. How to block punches, kicks, or weapons. Most people throw their punches way out to the side and try to come around at your face, simply block their bicep or forearm area, they are making a curve toward your face, but you got straight to their arm and cut them off.. what is the shortest distance between two points? (a curve? no A straight line? yea i belive so) Always, and i mean always, keep your hands up, wether they are in fists or open, they should be up, what good do they do dangling at your sides? Kick/Punch through your target. My instructor always says do not aim for the target, aim for 36 inches past the target. Do not get me wrong, however, you should not throw haymakers and let your body spin aorund after you throw a punch.. what if you miss?? you are in no position to block his attack or attack again, so after you have pushed through snap your arm or leg back into kicking/punching position. This is very important also because if you leave your arm or leg out there, the opponent could easily do a grab on you, and then you are in trouble. That's just the beginning. www.chos.comAnother guy i know is in some martial art called Hun Gar ( i think that is how its spelled) it is supposed to be very deadly and fierce.
