That sucks so much it's nigh incomprehensible. Why is that, then?
For my purposes, I just ended my second day at college. So far, it's rediculously simple. It'll probably get harder fast enough to make my head spin, though.
Uhm, and why is this in the FL? I see no flames, the topic isn't retarded, ergo, it's General fare...

I didn't mean it as a discussion on just me getting in in college. I didn't really care about the thread so I posted it in the FL.

So what exactly is it in the college placement system of Ireland that prevents you from studying Theoretical Physics? Is it some kind of how-well-you-did in school that determines what you can take type thing?

Stone, does it work on a points system, as in the UK?

I don't know how it works in the UK. Here, It works like this. You get points depending on your grade and ther level you take. -Higher level- - A1 = 100
- A2 = 90
- B1 = 85
- B2 = 80
- B3 = 75
- C1 = 70
- C2 = 65
- C3 = 60
- D1 = 55
- D2 = 50
- D3 = 45
-Ordinary Level- - A1 = 60
- A2 = 50
- B1 = 45
- B2 = 40
- B3 = 35
- C1 = 30
- C2 = 25
- C3 = 20
- D1 = 15
- D2 = 10
- D3 = 5
You take the points of the six subjects in which you scored highest, and add the points. Then, after you have applied for the course, (and say for example it has capacity for 40 people), the 40 people who scored the highest points and applied for that subject are accepted. It's stupid, because you could be 10 times better than somebody else at a certain subject, but they get accepted because they scored higher points.

Six subjects? From your GCSE grades? Or are things totally different?

We don't do GCSE's. We do exams called the Leaving Certificate. Usually 7 subjects, but some people take more. The 3 compulsory subjects are English, Gaeilge and Maths. You take the best 6 results from all your exams and add up your points from them.

I think I like it better here in America... in some ways more than others. Here they do look at how well you did in school, but that is just for whether or not they will actually let you in. You can take anything you damn well please... for the low low cost of an arm and a leg.

There are three specific people who I have posted with on message boards who were all, at different times, 14 years of age. No-one could have believed that they were fourteen, because of the things which these people wrote... no-one would have a believed a young teenage mind was capable of holding and comprehending this sort of information. This is the beauty of the internet... you can be an Irish eighteen year old, a Chinese fourty year old, an American with a mental age of three, yet you are hidden behind your computer and people can only judge you on what you let them read. About a year ago, I posted on a message board which I frequent, in an Age thread, telling everyone I was thirteen years of age. Idiots and |\|3\/\/8135 used this against me for maybe a week, until another regular decided to set them all straight.
Only an idiot will use something personal against another on the internet, namely age. If someone has proven that they fit the stereotypical age category, then you are free to flame.
