The word bomb implies DANGER and to use CAUTION. Always a good idea when dealing with something that EXPLODES.
The word device does not imply danger, and it doesn't make you think cautiously, because, to your mind, it's no bomb, it is a device.
Calling a bomb a device makes people think that they needn't use as much caution because a device isn't nearly as scary or as powerful as a bomb.
Be forewarned, a device, although it doesn't sound scary, or dangerous, it is just a scary as a bomb, and just as dangerous.
You know why??? It is the same THING!
The name doesn't change the meaning. Just because some sheep become afraid, it is because they do not understand.
This probably should go in the flame lounge, but it is important to you guys in explosives.
Actually, instead of EXPLOSIVES, a big "scary" word, lets call it, hmm, how about Volatiles? or maybe Unstables?
It doesn't sound as scary, and the sheep will be happier.

I can see why you posted this drunk, but can you also see my point of view? A bomb is usually something which would be used to murder or destroy and has no helpful value, where a "charge" or "device" can be used to help people if need be. I agree that the word "bomb" implies that said lump of matter is dangerous, but It also makes us look bad simply because of the scared people who do not understand. I have a problem with seeing the word "bomb" because it simply causes more trouble than the word device. Half of the time things that are named "bombs" arent even something which would be a bomb. the "sparkler bomb" wouldnt even be a bomb. it would actually be somehting more like a "sparkler salute" and naming it as a bomb would give it undeserved criticism. As for you being mad and me just being the straw and all. I'm not worried about it. I'm open to pretty much ALL feedback i get and i'd like to hear everyones opinions about things so that I dont seem to be a complete asshole. I CAN be an asshole sometimes and that CAN be a good thing, but I try to be fair.

I can see your point of view DTP, the word bomb is overused and often misleading. But the word device...just doesn't fit to me. I use the word bomb for anything that goes "Boom". I understand what a salute is I think, but I am not completely positive, could you explain exactly what it is? Thanks, and I'm sorry I got pissed in my sparkler thread but try to see it from my view, you closed my topic because I missnamed it? I'm still a little curious about that one. Maybe you can start writing text files explaining basic explosives, since you obviously know a lot about them. Hey, explosives. Great word, not bomb. Explosives. Everyone cool with that? I also have to apologise to you both for starting this whole thing. It was me who made the topic without reading the note at the top of the forum, and then me again who told Way2 about the situation, when I knew he was pretty mad. I completely understand that whole asshole thing, man I just hope people like me. Just let me make clear that I posted both of those as bombs, because to me they were bombs. I didn't post them straight out of the ACB, in fact I was researching it a while ago and I found out that most of the info is faulty and dangerous. I have tried both the devices that I made threads on and both worked for me. DTP, thank you for re-opening my thread and I'll be posting a responce to that.

Yea i see where both of you guys are coming from. The main reason I closed the 2 liter thread was because lately people all over the US have found how easy it is to make bottle over pressure type salutes and they have quickly become a favorite device by little vandalising bastards.
Don't get me wrong, I've shot my share of road signs, I've fucked my share of private property up, but I've grown up a little since then and I now don't fuck anyones shit up unless they REALLY deserve it.
I was talking to a friend a week ago (who lives on the other side of the USA from me)about one that had been thrown in her yard. A few months ago one was thrown on the porch of my dads friends house and the acid from the thing discolored the parts of the house it hit making it look like complete shit. I have also read news articles both online and in the news paper about kids getting arrested for throwing them into elementry school yards, and into parks, and such. That kinda shit just sickens me. Why do damage to someones yard, or property, or PERSON with a bottle that spews acid for fun? That's why It was closed, but i'll assume everyone here knows that it's just lame to do anything other with them than throw them in a plastic trash can or on the ground in a field for fun. Furthermore, terrorising or scaring ANYONE with ANYTHING that goes bang gives people who make explosives a much worse name than they deserve. You want MY view on explosives?
Explosives are one of the world's best things. Explosives can not only kill but they can also save lives. Explosives are used to do everything from cutting trees down and blowing buildings down so that we can build in that area again, to blowing concrete appart to get to people who are lying under tons of rubble from a building that collapsed while they were either in it or near it. Explosives are used to mine for things that many people would need to live. There are some mis-guided people who use explosives to kill, but I personally would hate to kill anyone with explosives.
If someone starts throwing grenades at me I'm damn sure gonna throw a few back, but that's simply because I'm not gonna let anyone have a break if they think they're gonna kill me in a disgraceful way without a fight. I personally have stopped making anything in the pyro realm for the next couple years until I can get a pyro license which enables me to legally make fireworks for people to watch on holidays, and it lets me experiment with high explosives. I personally would LOVE to be a bomb technician as my STATE doesn't have one. I still make the random explosive device from time to time to experiment and learn a little bit more about explosives and what they can do though.
Would you rather personally know how to make explosives or bombs? Bombs which are made by individual people usually only contain something like black powder or flash powder. High Explosives on the other hand have to be made with chemicals. I could go to the hardware store and make a good many different explosives with very diferent properties from the things I got from the store. Explosives demand a high level of patience, commitment, knowledge, and disipline to be able to make successfuly and stay alive. I take pride in knowing that I have the power to both destroy lives and save them. I've always been somewhat of an outcast in life. I've always been looked at like I was a disgraceful idiot who will never be anything more than a stocker at a grocery store. I started making Explosives and I gained some confidence. I went from being suicidal to liking to learn about things that most people are scared shitless of. Who'se the one whose never going to amount to anything now ya know? I want to learn about stuff so that I can help people. Everything now a day revolves more and more around money and less and less around knowledge that actually helps people. This is why I think so low of bombs and their makers, and so highly of explosives and chemists. Being a chemist or explosives chemist deserves respect. People may not like cops, I know that I dont, but when a cop or an explosives expert goes and takes appart a bomb that would otherwise tear you into pieces you have to give them SOME respect and they can only help because they have learned how to make explosives AND bombs. thats my view on explosives. Sorry it was so long but I wanted to say everything that would come to mind about the subject.
A salute is anything in a pyrotechic area that makes a bang. If you read the side warnings on fireworks that make a bang you'll see that it states that whatever firework it is has a "report". A firecracker is a salute and so are those little snap n' pop things that are made for kids that you throw on the ground that snap.
